Magic Touch Winter league report 31st January 2010
This week the first division were back in action and the top two teams were playing each other. On their ‘home’ terrain, Vagabonds managed a 4-2 win over Outlaws who had been flying up the table. After 3 doubles had been completed, Vagabonds found them selves 1-2 down and their remaining pair were also 7-11 down. However, the dug in and won that double, going on to win the triple and single to secure the match.
Taylormade sitting in third position completed a 6-0 win over Les Hirondelles in convincing style. They have now moved into second place above Outlaws by virtue of their better games difference. Tony Allchurch won a close single and the Occidentals also won the triple, thus sealing the win and moving above their opponents in the table.
There was also a significant win for Occidentals who beat Country Gang 4-2. Having won the first two doubles, Occidentals then lost the next two leaving all to play for in the triple and single.
The unbeaten Grantez continued their fine form with a 5-1 win against Fleur de Lys – perhaps fitting though that Chairman of the JPA Ken le Brun saved the day by winning the single and thus avoiding a ‘whitewash’!
Second placed Grouville also had a 5-1 win against Wednesday Mob, but there were some very closely contested games with Grouville winning two of the doubles 13-11 and their only loss in the singles saw Garnet Billot beat Elaine Paisnel 13-12. L’Homard lost one point at home as Wrinkleys held them to a draw and this means has allowed the top two to pull away a little.
Weighbridge Wonders who have been struggling to get going finally got their first win today by beating St Mary’s.
