2008 Magic Touch Island Singles
Today’s Magic Touch Island Singles championship was won by Elaine Paisnel; the first lady to take the trophy.

Elaine Paisnel receives the trophy from Chairman Ken Le Brun
The 23 players were in three groups and the yellow group was topped by Keith Pinel, father of last year’s champion Matthew. Keith won 5 of his 7 games with a net +21 beating both Matthew and last year’s runner up Michel Morel along the way. Neil Selby also won 5 in this group but had the slightly lower net score of +12.Dave Grover and Darrel Le Brun each won 4 games.
Similarly in the green group, both Elaine Paisnel and Tim Bechelet won 5 of their 7 games and Elaine’s +20 meant she progressed to the semi final where she again took on Tim who qualified as the best runner-up. Frank Morel, Tony Allchurch and Gerald Rolland each won 4 games.
Mick Cotillard (one of the current Island doubles team champions pairing) won all 6 of his games in the blue group and had a +29 points difference. Ken Le Brun and Betty Vibert each won 4 of their 6 games; Ken with +16 and Betty +8.
A very close semi-final between Elaine and Tim was point for point all the way. Tim finally pulled into a 12-10 lead but Elaine held her nerve to take the game 13-12.
The second semi final saw Mick pull through comfortably to win 13-6 against Keith.
Once again the final was a point for point affair. Mick Cotillard took a slight lead just for Elaine to catch up to 3 all. Elaine then moved to 5-3 and again Mick recouped the deficit. It remained neck and neck until Elaine lead 11-9 and in a tight last end she gained the two points she needed to secure victory.
Thanks to Samares Manor for once again allowing the championships to be held in their beautiful grounds.
