2008
Firstly a correction: In the January newsletter I wrote that the End of the Winter league dinner would be on the 6th April. Well, I got it wrong. The Winter league does not finish until the 13th April, so that is the date for the dinner. Please scratch out any reference in your diary to the 6th. The Winter dinner will be at St Ouen’s Parish Hall on 13th April. Fred still has plenty of time to oil his bits in preparation. We hope to eat at 6pm.
Annual General Meeting.
You may already be aware through your club representative or on the grape vine, that I will not be seeking re-election to the position of Chairman of the JPA at the next AGM.
I have enjoyed working with the committee and the club representatives to get the Association up and running and I would like to thank them all for their hard work and support over the past four years. In that time we have established the Island Championships for Singled, Doubles and Triples and have taken on the administration of the Summer and Winter leagues as well as assuming responsibility for the Inter Insular. We have also made a good start at involving young people in the game of Petanque. We have a summer junior championship and Tony is working with the schools to get more participation from local students.
Venue for the AGM. This AGM will be held at St Mary’s Youth & Community Centre at 8pm.
Affiliation.
As you are aware by now, the British Petanque Federation is no more. We are continuing with our efforts to affiliate to the Federation Internationale de Petanque et Jeu Provencal. However this is not proving to be that straightforward. We are now on our second round of letters to the secretary of the Federation Internationale. My thanks to Colin Vibert for providing the French Translation.
Summer leagues.
There is still time to get your forms back to Mick Cotillard if you wish to enter a team in the Summer league. A form was included with the last newsletter.
We would like to get the games started as soon as possible this year, taking advantage of the evening sun and those extra daylight hours of May.
Copies of the rules governing the Summer league are distributed to all the team captains. I would ask all captains to make their team players aware of the rules. This helps to avoid “difficulties“during the season.
